Production Regulations for the Controlled and
Guaranteed Denomination of Origin
"Ramandolo"
Article 1.
The controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin "Ramandolo"
label is reserved for the wine meeting the conditions
and requirements set out in these production regulations.
Article 2.
The wine referred to in the preceding article must come
100% from Friuli Verduzzo vine grapes (locally called
yellow verduzzo).
The vines registered in the wine roll under the controlled
and guaranteed denomination of origin "Ramandolo"
are usable because of the zone superposition, also for
passage classification, to produce controlled denomination
of origin wine from the Friuli Eastern Hills "Verduzzo",
in respect for the conditions set out in the relative
production regulations, without prejudice to the yield
per hectare foreseen for the Ramandolo controlled and
guaranteed denomination of origin wine.
Article 3.
The grapes used to produce the controlled and guaranteed
denomination of origin "Ramandolo", in accordance
with Art.1 must be produced in the zone indicated: ….……
in the towns of Nimis and Tarcento.
Article 4.
1. The environmental conditions of the vineyards destined
for the production of controlled and guaranteed denomination
of origin "Ramandolo" wine must be those normal
to the area and suitable for giving the grapes their specific
quality characteristics.
The vineyards must be on suitable land for producing this
specific denomination of origin type. Land that is too
humid or does not get enough sun is to be excluded.
2. For new plants or re-planting, the density of plants
per hectare can not be lower than 3,000 in specialized
cultivation.
The plant arches, the growing types and the pruning systems
must be those used generally or suitable so as not to
modify the characteristics of grapes and wine.
3. The maximum grape yield per hectare in specialised
cultivation must not exceed 8 tons. In favourable years
the amount of grapes obtained and destined to be used
to produce the controlled and guaranteed denomination
of origin wine "Ramandolo" must be kept within
the above limits, as long as global production does not
exceed those limits by more than 20%. The excess grapes,
within a maximum 20% limit, have no right to the controlled
and guaranteed denomination of origin "Ramandolo"
label. Above that percentage limit, the product loses
the right to the denomination of origin qualification.
Article 5.
1. All wine-making operations and any to enrich the alcohol
level, including those of drying grapes that can occur
on the plant or in suitable thermo-conditioned or forced
ventilation premises must take place within the production
area.
However, considering the traditional situation, wine-making
can also take place within the town territories of Nimis
and Tarcento.
2. The grapes to be used to make the controlled and guaranteed
denomination of origin "Ramandolo" wine must
have a natural alcohol level of minimum 12%.
3. The maximum yield of grapes in wine including any corrective
addition and the maximum production of wine per hectare
can not exceed 65%. For the residue till a maximum of
70%, 65% will be considered controlled and guaranteed
denomination of origin and the remaining 5% will have
no right to the controlled and guaranteed denomination
of origin label: over said percentage limit, the entire
product loses the right to the controlled and guaranteed
denomination of origin label.
4. In the making and refining of the controlled and guaranteed
denomination of origin "Ramandolo" wine wooden
casks can be used.
Article 6.
The controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin "Ramandolo"
wine put on sale must answer to the following characteristics:
- golden yellow colour, more or less intense;
- pleasant sweet, velvety more or less tannic taste with
body and a possible trace of wood;
- minimum total alcohol volume level: 14 % volume;
- minimum total acidity: 4.5 g/l;
- minimum net dry extract: 20 g/l.
It is the faculty of the Ministry for Agriculture –
national Committee for the protection and valorisation
of typical geographical denomination of origin wine, to
modify the total acidity and dry extract levels through
decree.
Article 7.
In the labelling, designation and presentation of the
controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin "Ramandolo"
wine, no qualifying terms that are different from what
is set out in these regulations can be used, including
the adjectives fine, chosen, selected, superior or similar.
However, indications that refer to names, corporate names,
private brands that do not have meanings of praise or
create illusions for consumers are permitted.
Reference to geographical and toponymic administrative
units or hamlets, areas, places from where the grapes
come is permitted in accordance with the provisions in
the ministerial decree of 22 April 1992.
Mention of the vineyard followed by the relative place
name is permitted in accordance with what is foreseen
by the law.
The year of production is obligatory on all bottles sold
of the controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin
wine "Ramandolo".
Article 8.
The controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin wine
"Ramandolo" must only be put up for sale in
glass bottles with a capacity of no more than 5 litres.
